Installing the Jamroom Bonus Pack

Installing the Jamroom Bonus Pack is a straight forward process.  If you are not familiar with using an FTP Client to upload files to your Jamroom server, you might want to consider the Jamroom Guaranteed Install option - we can install and configure your Jamroom, Bonus Pack (and Power Pack if purchased) for you.

All you will need is a few minutes to follow these instructions and your Jamroom Bonus Pack will be installed in no time.

Installing the required files

  • First, make sure you have download the latest version of the Jamroom Bonus Pack from the Jamroom Downloads Page 1).
  • Next, uncompress the downloaded archive (it will be named something like "jamroom-bonus-3.0.9.zip" - note that the version number may be different) into a folder on your local hard drive. You will see that a sub-folder is created that is named the same as the download - i.e. “jamroom-bonus-3.0.9”.
  • Next, upload the contents of this folder directly in to your Jamroom directory, using an FTP client like FileZilla. If uploaded correctly, you will see the scripts from the bonus pack are now inside your jamroom directory - i.e. “jamroom/search.php”. You do not need to worry about overwriting any files already installed in your Jamroom, since all of the new files in the Jamroom Power Pack do not exist in your Jamroom install.

All of the files required by the Bonus Pack have now been installed.

Enabling the Jamroom Friendly URL's

The Jamroom Friendly URL Feature will enable the Artists in your Jamroom to use a “nice” URL to get to their artist site, instead of a number. For example, instead of going to http://example.com/members/25, your artists could type in http://example.com/band_name, which should make it much easier for your artists to remember their URL.

In order to support the Jamroom “Friendly URLs” feature, you will need to rename the “htaccess_friendly_urls” file that is located in your jamroom directory to “.htaccess” - this will enable the mod_rewrite feature of Apache 2) and allow the nice names to work.

Tip: If you already have a .htaccess file present in your jamroom directory, you can simply add the contents of the htaccess_friendly_urls to the bottom of your current .htaccess file.

Configuring the Jamroom Signup System

After installing the Jamroom Bonus Pack, you will see a new option become available in the Jamroom Config section - “Signup Settings”. You’ll want to click on this option and ensure all the Signup choices are configured as you want them to be. When you are satisfied with your configuration, press the “Update Settings” button to ensure your changes are saved to the database.

Installing and Configuring the Jamroom Lofi Creator

To install and use the Jamroom Lofi Creator, please see the separate Jamroom Lofi Creator Guide for detailed instructions on compiling, installing and configuring LAME for use within your Jamroom.

Configuring Jamroom to allow your users to "invite" their friends to join

One of the new features available in Jamroom 3.2.0 (and later) is the ability for your friends to "invite" their friends to join your Jamroom.  This is a great way to expand the membership of your system.  Enabling access to the Invitation system is easy

  • In the Jamroom Quota that you want to enable the Invitation System for, select the "modify" button next to it in the Jamroom Config -> Jamroom Quotas section
  • Scroll down a bit - you will see the new settings for "Allow Invitations" - make sure this is set to "yes".  There are 2 additional settings that impact the Jamroom Invitations:
    • "Max Invites Per User" - this allows you to set a "cap" on the number of invites a single user can send.  Set this to 0 to allow unlimited invites.
    • "Invite Profile Quota" - when a user has accepted the "invite", what Jamroom Quota will their account be created under?
  • Make sure the 3 settings are as you want them, then save the Jamroom Quota settings.
  • Repeat these steps for each Jamroom Quota you want to enable the Invitation System for.

Next, after configuring the Jamroom Quotas as you want them, you'll want to create a Custom Button that allows your users view the invitation system:

  • Click on "Jamroom Config" -> "Custom Buttons" as the master admin
  • Click on the "Create Button" button at the top of the page in the "Options" section
  • Enter the following information to create the new Custom Button
    • Button Label - "Invite a Friend"
    • Button Url = "signup.php?mode=invite"
    • Select all of the Jamroom Quotas you want this available for in the "Button Quotas" section
    • Create your new Custom Button by clicking on "Create Button"

That's it - your new button has been created, and your users can invite their friends to signup in your Jamroom!

1) A Valid Jamroom License code is required to download the Jamroom Bonus Pack.
2)
This option was developed and tested with the Apache web server - there’s no assurance this will work with other web servers
