Overview

The Jamroom Quota System is at the very heart of how Jamroom functions, and allows you as a Jamroom site owner to provide varying levels of “features” to your artists, depending on the Jamroom Quota the Artist Account belongs to. There is an important distinction to make - Jamroom Quotas are applied to Artist Accounts, not User Accounts. Since there can be more than 1 user assigned to an Artist Account, the “Quota” is tied to the Artist Account. This lets features like disk space, number of songs, and the ability to activate or deactivate items from an Artist Account work.

Creating/Modifying Jamroom Quotas

Creating or Modifying a Jamroom Quota is very easy. Simply select the “Create Quota” option, or the “Modify Quota” option from the Jamroom Admin Menu.

Note: Only the Master Admin can access the Admin Menu and work with the Jamroom Quotas.

Both the Create and Modify Quota forms look the same - you are presented with a form interface where you can change the choices that effect the Jamroom Features the artists that belong to the quota will have access to. Note that all changes that are made on the Modify Quota screen happen as soon as you save the quota!.

Note: If you lower the amount of disk space that a Jamroom Quota is allowed, and yet an Artist Account has used more disk space than the new value, the Artist(s) will NOT be able to create any new songs until their disk usage falls below the new disk space limit.

Creating several Jamroom Quotas gives you an easy way to differentiate your “paid” Artist Accounts from your “free” Artist Accounts, for example. By default, Jamroom comes with 3 Jamroom Quotas pre-installed. These make a good starting point to learn from and begin modifying your custom Jamroom Quotas.

Jamroom Quota Settings

The following options are available for you to activate/deactivate on a PER QUOTA basis:

Option Description
Quota Name This value is the name of the Jamroom Quota as it will be viewed when creating or modifying an artist
Disk Space How much disk space (in megabytes) do you want to allow Artists in this quota to use?
Custom Disk Space Alternately, you can enter a disk space amount (in megabytes) that is not in the regular Disk Space drop-down list, and Jamroom will use that amount as the disk space instead. A valid value consists of a number (i.e. 20) which corresponds to the number of megabytes in disk space the quota will be allowed to use. No fractions.
Quota Cushion The “Quota Cushion” is the amount of disk space, in megabytes, you will allow an artist to go beyond the amount they have been alloted in their plan - this will prevent their uploads from failing when they slightly go over their allowed disk space. It is recommended this is left at 3 megabytes.
Max Songs The “Max Songs” setting allows you to define the maximum number of songs that artists in this quota can have in their Artist Page. The default for this setting is 0 (meaning off) - if this is set to a number greater than zero, then the “Disk Space” setting is ignored, and the artist is allowed the Max Songs number of songs instead.
Minimum LoFi bitrate This value will enforce a MINIMUM LoFi song file bitrate - LoFi songs that are uploaded that fall BELOW this bitrate will not be allowed. Set this to 8kbps to effectively disable.
Maximum LoFi bitrate This value will enforce a MAXIMUM LoFi song file bitrate - LoFi songs that are uploaded that EXCEED this bitrate will not be allowed. Set this to 384kbps to effectively disable.
Minimum HiFi bitrate This value will enforce a MINIMUM HiFi song file bitrate - HiFi songs that are uploaded that fall BELOW this bitrate will not be allowed. Set this to 8kbps to effectively disable.
Maximum HiFi bitrate This value will enforce a MAXIMUM HiFi song file bitrate - HiFi songs that are uploaded that EXCEED this bitrate will not be allowed. Set this to 384kbps to effectively disable.

It’s recommended you set this to “yes” unless you are using an application that needs access to the directory.

Any Artist Theme that is not available to their quota will still be visible, but not selectable. WARNING: If you check this option, you need to ensure that the only Artist Themes configured in your Jamroom are themes you would want the artist to view.
Unavailable Theme Note What is the message you would like to appear next to an Artist Theme that the Artist does not have access to? Note that HTML is allowed in this value, so you can use it as an opportunity to link to information about your pricing plans, etc.
Admin Note This is simply a text field that you can write “notes” to yourself in.

Changing the Jamroom Quota for an Artist

To change the Jamroom Quota that an Artist Account belongs to, as the Jamroom Master Admin select the “Change Artists” button from the Artist Menu and choose the Artist you want to modify. Next, click on the “Modify Artist” button in the Artist Menu, and at the bottom of the form you will see a drop-down box where you can select the Jamroom Quota you want the Artist Account to be part of.

Note: Only the Master Admin can see the Jamroom Quota option in the Create/Modify Artist screen. “Normal” user accounts do not see this option.

Deleting a Jamroom Quota

If you no longer need a certain Jamroom Quota, it is simple to delete it. Just select the “Delete Quota” option from the Admin Menu, select the Jamroom Quota you would like to delete, and press “delete”.  If there are currently artists that belong to the Quota you are attempting to delete, Jamroom will force you to select a Jamroom Quota from a list that you want to MOVE those Artist Accounts to.

Moving more than 1 Artist to a new Quota

To move all Artist Accounts that are currently using a Quota to a new Quota, first, create the new Jamroom Quota, then delete the Quota you want to move the Artist Accounts from. Jamroom will force you to choose the Quota you want to move the Artist Accounts to, and simply select the new Quota you created.
