Hello friend,

Please help me.

How to add "Facebook Like Button", "Facebook Share Button", "Facebook Send Button", "Twitter Tweet Button" and "Twitter Share Button" on the following pages: "Home page", "Artist Page", "Song Page", "Video Page"?

I am using the Nova Skin.

Which Template file to edit? Should I just have to put the code from Facebook and Tweeter in the file and I am done? Or is there anything else to do?

I would like the code to automatically pick up the right Meta Tags: Artist Name, Song Title etc as well as the right Image while liking or sharing on Facebook and Tweeter.

I have seen the Jamroom Facebook and Jamroom Twitter Modules from the MarketPlace. There are excellent modules but I don't think that I will really need them since I don't need the Jamroom Facebook and Twitter Connect feature. The registration and login option on my site are both OFF. We don't allow either registration or login.

Can someone help me integrating these Social Buttons without necessary having to buy the Jamroom Facebook and Jamroom Twitter Connect Modules which I really don't need much?

Many Thanks in advance.

Are you using the jrFacebook and jrTwitter modules or are you adding the code yourself?

You'll find the templates for all these pages in your skins/Nova folder...

skins/Nova/jr_header.tpl
skins/Nova/jr_index.tpl
skins/Nova/jr_footer.tpl

Those three templates make up the home page.

The skins/Nova/artists.tpl is the template for the Artists page... the artists.tpl also using the jr_header.tpl and the jr_footer.tpl

The Song page is the songs.tpl and the video page is the videos.tpl... the artist, song and video page also use the jr_ranking_row.tpl template, which is where the data for each artist, song and video is displayed.

If you are unfamiliar with the template system for Jamroom, you might check out the following docs.

http://www.jamroom.net/Jamroom4_Working_With_Templates
http://www.jamroom.net/Jamroom4_Ranking_System

Hope this helps,
Douglas

Hi Douglas,

Thanks for the reply.

No, I am not using jrFacebook and jrTwitter modules. I don't see the need of buying to whole module just for the "Like", "share" and "Tweet" buttons. I will not use the Facebook and Twitter Connect feature of these modules since the registration and login option on my site are both OFF. We don't allow either registration or login.

I would like to add the Facebook and Tweeter code myself.

Ah, there is a jr_fblike and jr_fbshare function for the jrFacebook module and I believe the paramters for the jr_fblike function are:

layout - Can be set to either standard or button_count
width - default is 450
height - default is 80
font - choices are arial, tahoma or verdana
colorscheme - choices are light and dark
and url - I'm guessing would be the URL to what your wanting like... ie. $ARTIST_URL or $ARTIST_URL/?song=$SONG_ID etc.

so the function would look something like this:

Code
{jr_fblike layout="standard" width="450" height="80" font="verdana" colorscheme="dark" url=$ARTIST_URL}

and for the jr_fbshare function, it looks like the parameters are:

name - I'm guessing this would be the name or title of whatever your using the share button for, ie. $BAND_NAME, $SONG_NAME etc.

share_url - the URL to what your sharing... ie. $ARTIST_URL or $ARTIST_URL/?song=$SONG_ID etc...

and type - can be set to one of the following: box_count, button, button_count, icon_link or icon.

So the function might look like:

Code
{jr_fbshare name=$BAND_NAME share_url=$ARTIST_URL type="button"}

Note that I've not tried any of this, I'm just going by what I see in the modules/jrFacebook/smarty function files for both the like and share functions.

As far as the jrTwitter module goes, I think this is all setup through the quotas and what the artists allow to be tweeted. I've not looked into those files that much.

Hope this helps,
Douglas

Hello Douglas,

Thanks for the reply.

Will the jr_fblike and jr_fbshare function (code) work without the jrFacebook module? I am asking because I am not pretending to buy the jrFacebook and jrTwitter Module as I don't need their Connect Feature. Registration and login are not allowed on my site.

I am afraid I don't have modules/jrFacebook/smarty

Please advise.

Thanks

No, you'll need the jrFacebook module installed to have access to those functions.

Hope this helps,
Douglas

Hi Douglas,

Thanks for the reply.

Well, I don't see the need of buying the whole module which mainly focuses on "Facebook Connect" (because I won't use it) just for the "like" and "share" button. Although the module is excellent and useful for many users who allow Login or Sign up through Facebook credentials but It seems to me that it will be just a waste of money for me (I mean in my particular case). As said in my previous posts: "Registration and login are not allowed on my site. They are both OFF". So no need of Facebook or Twitter connect.

Nothing against your modules, They are great! but I think Jamroom should have made things easier.

Isn't there another way (a workaround), an easiest way, to add just the Facebook Like and Share button and the Twitter button without necessary having to buy the JrFacebook and JrTwitter modules?

Here's some stand-alone template code I've used for twitter -

Code
          {assign var="tweet_url" value="`$ARTIST_URL`?event=`$EVENT_ID`"}
          {assign var="tweet_text" value="`$EVENT_TITLE`"}
          <a href="http://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-url="{$tweet_url}" data-text="{$tweet_text}" data-count="horizontal" data-via="your_twitter_name">
            Tweet
          </a>
          <script type="text/javascript" src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>

but for FB I've always used the calls in the JR module.

Hello ussher,

The addthis page is not loading (not opening) in both FF and Chrome. I don't know why. Anyway, I think that I know it. Not quite sure if it offers the Facebook Like, Share, recommend and Send button.

Great. Now the link is working. The page was not opening some hours ago, maybe server problem.

Awesome!!!! I have checked, Yes it has facebook, twitter, linkedin, etc. They seem to be new features. They weren't implemented yet one or two years ago when I used to use addthis on one of my other sites.

I will try it. It should be one of the most effective way to add these social bookmark and share buttons to Jamroom.

Thank you for helping. Smile

Regards
