Hiya.

Regarding this thread http://www.jamroom.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5496

well.

I r stupid. So i followed the instructions and created those tpl/cfg files in the themes/Cobalt dir, and .. then what?

I downloaded jeroens player. And im no stranger to a bit of code, but have never touched xml before.

So what i dont get is, - how is this tutorial (above) going to actually create the playlist for me?

Could someone please explain this in a very short, do this and then do that, step by step.

Hopefully, thanks

What that will do is create an xml file inside each artist directory. Subconfig files are the key to making this work. A sub config file will loop over each item that is in an artists profile. In this case, it's a song sub config file, so for each song an artist has, a row will be added to the xml playlist. Hopefully that makes more sense!

but, it needs to generate a file right?

Where is that file being put? Also, when does it generate the xml - when the user plays a song, or just whenever someone uses the site?

Its just, im not seeing it generate anything, i can point my player to.

Each time you regenerate the theme, a new file will be created in each members directory. You would need to point your player to that file generated when the theme is regenerated.

Hmm.

So, is there any way to modify this script, to make ONE huge xml file, out of all artists on the site?

Thing is, as it is now is nice but i reaaaaally need one large xml file, where i can stream a radio/flash off.

If its in any way possible, and someone is up for showing me the code, i will have your kids. (especially if theyre teenage daughters .. no wait..a minute.)

I don't think that you have to use an xml file with jeroens player unless you want to.
Check this doc:
http://www.jamroom.net/Jamroom3_Play_Script

play.php?mode=song_hifi&band_id=all&song_id=all&type=mp3

Good luck.

Ah i see.

But, i think an xml file has advantages (could be wrong, dont know too much about it yet)

- cant it:

Output links to the users directory, so its possible to have a "visit" the artists page link button?

Isnt it more secure?

And finally, if i wanted to, i could integrate a "jingle" whenever i wanted, like every 3, 50, or 100th song - (by simply making a script that will insert it at X spaces down, and repeat through the script)

- can i do the same with the url type thing youre suggesting?

I think you may need to look into the idea of an admin radio station, it seems to me that it might be what you are describing.

Yes i know about the admin radiostation, but i dont want anything to do with windows mediaplayer - and it seems to me that all it does, is fire a playlist in the general direction of the mediaplayer.

Thats bad for a number of reasons in my book, the most important one being that everyone can just save the stream.

But also the fact that people wont be able to click on a button to visit the artist playings website is a no-go for me im afraid !

look into the jr_flash_player function:

http://www.jamroom.net/Jamroom3_jr_flash_player

You would want to pass in a radio_id (the radio_id of your admin radio station), and I think that would accomplish what you want to do.

I know this may be a stupid question...........
But can't you already do all this and more with the standard Jamroom flash player, but with allot less hassle??

Maybe I'm missing something here............
